HISTORY OF NEW BEGINNINGS COMMUNITY CHURCH
New Beginnings Community Church of God in Christ was founded by Elder James K. Griffin, Sr. After much prayer and preparation, the focus of this church would be the East Memphis, Germantown and Cordova communities. The Germantown, Pickering Center became the temporary location of New Beginnings Community Church of God in Christ. On Sunday, January 11, 1999 the official Chartering service was held with six members signing the charter. Bishop
James O. Patterson, Jr., Prelate of Headquarters Jurisdiction/Pastor, Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, was in attendance. Also in attendance, were members of Pentecostal Temple, other well wishers, and many family members.
In its' efforts to reach this community with the good news of Jesus Christ, in April, 1999, New Beginnings Community Church held its' first child dedication service. In July, 1999, during Headquarters Jurisdiction’s Convocation, New Beginnings held its' first Baptismal service. Since the beginning, New Beginnings Community Church has held many special services to enhance and uplift the community. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons, New Beginnings Community Church reaches out to families, schools and other social agencies throughout the East Memphis Community.
After the "9/11 Attack", September, 2001, New Beginnings sent supplies to "Ground Zero" in New York City. On November 19, 2001, New Beginnings Community Church took a great leap of faith in purchasing a 10,000 square foot church complex, on 7.5 acres, at 4480 Kirby Parkway, Memphis, TN. From this facility, New Beginnings Community Church will continue its' outreach ministry to this community, bringing new beginnings to men, women, boys and girls of East Memphis, Cordova, Germantown and the surrounding, East Shelby County, community.
